Manually Changing a Unit's Status
How to manually override a unit's status in Landager. Learn when to use the 'Maintenance' status for renovations and how to bypass lease automation.
While Landager prefers to automatically manage unit occupancy based on your active leases, you always retain the power to manually override a unit's status.
This is most commonly required when a unit requires significant repair or renovation between tenants.
How to Manually Change Status
- Navigate to the Properties list and click the property where the unit resides.
- On the Units tab, locate the specific unit.
- Click the three dots (Action Menu) assigned to that unit row and select "Edit".
- In the Edit Unit form, locate the Status dropdown field.
- Select your desired status (Vacant, Occupied, or Maintenance).
- Click "Save Changes".
When to Use the "Maintenance" Status
The "Maintenance" status is a manual tool designed specifically for unit turnovers and renovations.
When a lease ends, Landager automatically flips the unit to "Vacant." If you immediately list it for rent, leave it Vacant. However, if the previous tenant caused significant damage requiring weeks of contractor work:
- Follow the steps above to manually change the unit from Vacant to Maintenance.
- This stops you (or your team members) from accidentally trying to create a lease for a space that is physically uninhabitable.
- It keeps your dashboard metrics accurate — you know exactly why that unit isn't generating revenue.
Once the contractors finish and the unit is ready for showings, manually change the status back to Vacant, or simply let the system change it to Occupied the moment you create a new lease.
The Danger of Manual Overrides
[!WARNING] Proceed with caution when manually changing a unit to "Vacant" if an active lease is still attached to it.
If you manually designate a unit as Vacant while a tenant's lease is still active, you break the logical relationship in the system. Your dashboard occupancy metrics will become inaccurate because the system sees an active legal contract on a space you claim is empty.
If a tenant breaks their lease and moves out early, do not just change the unit status. Instead, End the Lease Early, and the system will correctly change the unit status to Vacant for you.
